Gaultheria in 17cm Pot

Gaultheria is a fascinating spreading shrub with wonderful glossy ornamental berries in winter. This handsome spreading low shrub will reach up to 50cm (20 in) height. It has suckers and will spread gently. In late spring, soft-pink, bell-shaped flowers appear in large, quite ornamental, clusters beneath the branches. The flowers come from brown calyces and the overall effect of the free flowering shrub is subtle and attractive. Clusters of red-purple fruit follow. The dense evergreen foliage forms a carpet of green with red tinted foliage. Fully frost hardy. Grows in acid/ericaceous soil. If you don't have acid soil in your garden, Gaultheria makes an attractive and unusual patio plant and is happy planted in a container in ericaceous compost.
