Sowing Space the seeds 2cm (¾”) apart in trays or two to a cell in modules under glass at 21°C. Cover lightly with compost and with glass to retain humidity. Planting Remove glass as soon as seedlings appear. Prick off tray sown seedlings, as soon as true leaves have formed, into 9cm (3 ½”) pots. Thin module seedlings to one per cell. Sowing Sow in pots or trays in a good compost under glass at 18-20°C. Cover the seeds lightly with sifted compost. Keep moist. Planting When the seedlings are large enough to handle, prick off into trays 5cm (2”) apart. Grow on and gradually harden off for planting in the flowering site in May 25cm (9”) apart. Other Instructions Although traditionally used in bedding displays, Salvias add colour to containers and make ideal spot plants in hanging baskets. Prick out all seedlings as some colours grow faster than others, planting up just the large seedlings will give only a single-colour display.

Sowing Prepare a nursery bed and sow thinly 0.5cm (¼”) deep or into seed trays in a cold frame. Planting When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin out to 5cm (2”) apart. Surplus seedlings can be transplanted into trays. In September or the following March, plant in flowering site 20cm (9”) apart. Other Instructions Regular removal of dead heads encourages new flowers to ensure a continuous display.
